Most gel manicure problems — lifting, chipping, bubbles, peeling — aren’t caused by the products. They’re caused by technique. This course teaches you the same fundamentals professional nail techs follow, adapted for home use with your OPAL kit.
You’ll have the confidence to do your own gel manicures at home, experiment with your OPAL shades, and maintain healthy nails between applications. Most customers say their second manicure takes half the time and looks twice as good.
Everything you need for salon-quality nails at home is in your custom kit.
Essential equipments at home
This is the most important step. 80% of gel polish problems (lifting, peeling, chipping) come from poor prep – not the polish itself.
Gel polish applied over cuticle skin will lift within days. The polish must bond directly to the nail plate.
1. Wash hands to remove all dust from filing. 2. Dry thoroughly – moisture is gel’s enemy 3. Wipe each nail with a lint-free wipe soaked in rubbing alcohol 4. Apply Nail Primer – one thin swipe down the centre of each nail. Let it air-dry for 30 seconds (no lamp needed) 5. Don’t touch […]
1. Shake the Opal Base Coat bottle gently before opening 2. Thin coats are key – wipe excess off the brush against the bottle neck 3. Apply to the centre of the nail first, then sweep left and right 4. Cap the free edge – run the brush along the very tip of your nail. […]
1. Roll the Opal Professional Gel Polish bottle between your palms to mix (shaking creates bubbles) 2. Load your brush – wipe one side clean, keep product on the other 3. Apply a thin first coat: centre, sides, cap the edge 4. Don’t worry if the first coat is sheer – this is normal. Opacity […]
1. Apply a second thin coat – same technique as the first 2. This coat builds full opacity – your colour should look rich and even 3. Cure for 60 seconds Need a third coat? Some lighter shades (pastels, neons, yellows) may need 3 thin coats for full coverage. That’s perfectly normal – it’s […]
1. Apply a thin layer of Opal top coat over the entire nail 2. Cap the free edge (just as important here as with the base coat) 3. Cure for 60 seconds 4. Wipe the sticky/tacky layer (called the inhibition layer) with a lint-free wipe and rubbing alcohol. You can safely ignore this step – […]
Do: • Wear gloves when cleaning, washing dishes, or using chemicals • Apply cuticle oil daily – hydrated nails flex instead of chip • Use your nails as nails, not tools (don’t pry, pick, or peel) Don’t: • Peel or pick at lifting gel – this rips off layers of your natural nail • Soak […]
Never peel gel polish off. This strips layers of your natural nail and causes thinning, peeling, and damage that takes months to grow out. Proper removal: 1. File the top coat gently with your included nail file to break the seal (don’t file into natural nail) 2. Apply acetone to the pad inside your […]
Problem 1: Lifting at cuticle Cause: Prep too rushed, gel on skin, or moisture. Fix: Better prep + leave 1mm gap Problem 2: Chips at tips Cause: Didn’t cap the free edge Fix: Always cap base, colour, and top coat Problem 3: Bubbles Cause: Shaking bottle, thick coats, or old product Fix: Roll […]
